Basketball: Conroe falls to College Park

CONROE, Texas – The Conroe High School girls’ basketball team split four games in the 64th Annual Tigerette Classic, a tournament it hosted at both Porter Gym and The Pit.

The Conroe Tigerettes defeated Aldine MacArthur 38-31 and followed it up with a 37-33 victory over Tomball. But the road to the tournament finals got tougher. Conroe fell 64-50 to Huntsville in the tournament semifinals before bowing 61-54 to College Park in the third-place game.

Klein Collins won the tournament title with a 61-43 victory over Huntsville in the finals.

The Tigerettes hit the road for games at Tomball (Tuesday), Langham Creek (Friday) and Montgomery (Monday, Nov. 19). Conroe’s next home game is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, with Porter.

Erica Powell scored 12 points in leading Conroe past Tomball. She added 16 points in the semifinals game with Huntsville, in which the Lady Hornets broke a 22-22 tie at halftime using a 20-10 advantage over the final eight minutes to pull away.

Powell tallied 15 points while Zakenja Buchannan added 11 more in the third-place game with College Park.
