CONROE, Texas -- Sacred Heart Catholic School recently celebrated the new school year, inducting 28 new members into the school’s Junior Beta Club.

The Junior Beta Club is a national organization recognized for promoting and rewarding academic excellence while focusing on the ideals of character, service and leadership among students in sixth through eighth grade at Sacred Heart Catholic School.

In a recent candlelight ceremony, Mrs. Brenda Schafer, teacher and Junior Beta Club sponsor, welcomed new students, families and the school community before presenting the club’s new officers and members, bringing the Junior Beta Club to 39 total members at Sacred Heart Catholic School.

“We are thrilled with our program and all of the wonderful hard-working students who strive to make our Beta Club unique each year,” said Schafer. “Our students truly embody the meaning of the national program to honor academic achievement, leadership, honesty and a passion for fellowship and service for our school and our community.”

Beta is an academic honors program with a strong emphasis on community service. The Junior Division of The National Beta Club, begun in 1961, is for students in 4th through 8th grade. The program’s national motto is, "Let Us Lead by Serving Others." Traditionally, students are awarded membership based on their grades (GPA), or test scores and character traits, but each school establishes guidelines to follow for membership. There are more than 490,000 active Betas in the senior and junior divisions and over 6.7 million alumni.

Sacred Heart Catholic School offers the Junior Beta Club to students in sixth through eighth grade who meet academic requirements and provide leadership qualities among their peers and in the community.

Principal Deb Brown added, “Our Beta program is phenomenal. Our students are eager to reach the junior high level to participate in the program and meet the challenge of leading by serving others. We are proud to help prepare our young students for life and empower them to be successful through leadership and academic achievement.”
