MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- The ‘Souper Bowl of Caring” officially kicked off January 15, to coincide with the prelude to the Super Bowl, in a national effort to collect food and funds for the hungry in local communities. The campaign has become one of the nation’s largest efforts for giving, and is essential for restocking the local food bank and food pantries depleted due to end-of-year gift giving and holiday meals.

The nation-wide campaign continues through February 3, with the major grocery chains participating. In Montgomery County volunteers will be out in force at the county’s nine Kroger locations, representing the Montgomery County Food Bank.

“Shoppers will be asked to purchase pre-packaged bags of food at check-out, and place them in the 'Souper Bowl of Caring' boxes,” said Vince Rodriguez, Volunteer Coordinator for the Montgomery County Food Bank.

The bagged food contains healthy and nutritious meals, and they're affordable! The ‘Ready’ bags average between 5 and 7 dollars.

Other ways residents can contribute to end hunger in the community:

• Sharing the contents of your pantry, but dates on donations cannot exceed the expiration date

• Shopping in-store sales in tandem with using cost-saving coupons

• Monetary donations

Monetary donations can be made directly to the Montgomery County Food Bank at the website provided.
