MCEA floats another successful duck race fundraiser

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- The 6th Annual Entergy Great American Duck Race to benefit the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance (MCEA), exceeded previous years’ participation with duck adoptions selling out ahead of schedule. In past years the 5,000 duck sales managed to reach quota just prior to post time. This year all ducks were sold out two hours prior to the event.
Community support for the fundraiser in both duck sales and the donation of prizes, was a tremendous success. Over 100 valuable items were awarded to lucky ducks. The Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Facebook page lists the top 10 duck winners.
“I’m just blown away by the community’s response to this year’s duck race,” said Margie Taylor, who has been coordinating duck adoption events all over Montgomery County. “Less than a month ago we only had 300 duck adoptions. We needed 4,000 for the event to be a successful fundraiser.”
Favorable weather and a lower than expected July 4th temperature resulted in a record turnout for the event at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center in the Creekside Village of The Woodlands. Coupled with creative fundraising efforts which included a Duck Dynasty look-alike contest, and a ‘duck-ing’ booth, the annual MCEA signature fundraiser exceeded all expectations.
