ORIGINAL STORY:

CONROE, Texas - The First Thursday Farmer’s Market will be swinging into Downtown Conroe this coming week with a Mardi Gras theme February, 4, from 4-8pm at Founder’s Plaza (205 Metcalf Street) in Conroe. Catch some beads, hear Zydeco music, and even eat a beignet while drinking chicory brew!

The Conroe Downtown Area Association (CDAA) sponsors the event monthly for local vendors to display their homemade products and have the opportunity to purchase fresh produce. After taking off the month of January, both vendors and local followers are excited to be coming back.

“December was slow, so we asked the vendors to wait until March to start up again”, said coordinator and Owner of Conroe Coffee, Leo Ohn. “We had people calling on January 7 wondering where the event was, while they were standing at Founder’s Plaza! Several people stopped by Conroe Coffee looking for the event. We decided to make it happen!”

One of the new vendors will be Macaw Confections-a healthy alternative to dark organic chocolate. Made with premium chocolate, the product is dairy free, gluten free, and vegan. Macaw Confections is produced locally in Spring without artificial flavorings, colorings, and cholesterol free. Learn more at www.MacawConfections.com

Also premiering at the event this Thursday is Griffin Meadery. Meaded wine is made by fermenting honey, water, and yeast together to make wine. Changing the honey, fermentation time, and adding fruit changes the outcome from a cinnamon/vanilla combination to black current chocolate or an apricot/apple wine. Selections vary from dry-citrus wine (Summer Schatzi), semi-sweet with Chocolate (Schokolade) to sweet Ambrosia made with cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans. Griffin Meadery is open in Willis for tastings in Willis www.GriffinMeadery.com or at the event Thursday. All wine is gluten free also.

Going with the Mardi Gras theme, Fish Tales will serve live crawfish, Conroe Coffee will serve beignets and chicory coffee, and LoneStar Internet Radio will broadcast Live Zydeco music from there Downtown Conroe studio.
